Alyssa Iron Heart

Alyssa Iron Heart, Piita Piitaki, is Amskapi Piikani and Saulteaux (plains Ojibway) and an
enrolled member of the Blackfeet Nation in Montana. Born in Calgary and raised in Lethbridge,
AB, Alyssa started dancing since she was a tiny tot and currently dances teen girls fancy shawl.
Travelling the powwow trail throughout Canada and the U.S, reconnecting with friends and
family and making new connections is what inspires her to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Alyssa recently received the Acknowledgement of Kimapiipiysin Award, Blackfoot Knowledge
Award, Honoring Spirit Indigenous Student Award and the Artistic Talent Award. Throughout
middle school and high school, she played for the school’s basketball teams and track and field.

Alyssa’s family, mentors, role models and elders have inspired her to be kind and encouraging
to the younger generation, leading by example.

Criteria:

 

  • Must be First Nations
  • Must submit their First Nations ID
  • Must be between 12-17 years of age
  • Must have no children
  • Must be a single female
  • Must be a powwow dancer
  • Must have knowledge of their First Nation culture and language
  • Must represent the Lead by Example Powwow
  • Must conduct themselves as a positive role model
  • Must submit photo in their First Nations attire
  • Must have knowledge of how the Lead by Example Powwow came to be
