Old, antique wood. A very rustic looking vintage/antique piece. Very unusual and obviously one of a kind. It is a box with a latch but one of the small sides is missing. I have had it almost 30 years and it was antique when I got it. I am ever so curious about what kind of wood it is. Seems to have just that one layer of paint on it (which, of course, could be scraped off easily.) Most likely very nice tight grain antique wood under the paint/stain (not sure what it is ~ does not look like
