Clay Monster Class: Wellness Exercise and Creative Grounding
By A Mystery Man Writer
Last updated 15 Jul 2024
We will be making clay monsters that represent feelings of fear and shame. Basic sculpture techniques are taught and the end result is up to you. The air dry clay can absorb acrylic paint for some color but it is not required. We can add things like stones and other elements like wood and fibers. You can let them dry overnight or smash them flat right in the studio that night with a rubber mallet. This is a wellness exercise. When we create a physical being or theoretical avatar of our emotions it becomes easier to separate them from our own personal image of ourselves. Letting go of that oppression can lead to healthy handling of our emotions. Creating with clay is a tactical experience that also grounds us in moments of anxiety and can lead to being mindful. This class is more about the process than the physical result.
