The core is a nice soft polyester cord, NOT a hallow tube, or soft cotton. Use a pair of sharp scissors to cut and quickly burn the edges lightly. Press the silk with your fingers and make sure it sticks to the polyester core. If you are inexperienced with cutting, burn first (very lightly) the spot that you want to cut, and then cut. This cord because of the polyester core, can be glued together when you have left over pieces. Just burn lightly the edges of 2 cut pieces and quickly stick them together, hold for a few seconds and you'll see that they get glued. You can then cover the joint with a bead or another piece of fabric so that you don't see the joint.
